The Windsor Central School District has once again been named one of the Best Communities for Music Education by the NAMM Foundation, a distinction it has now earned six of the past seven years.  

According to the NAMM Foundation, The Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students.

“It's very exciting to receive this award again.  It is a testament to the support that we receive from the community and the administration at Windsor.  We could not do the things that we do without it,” said Weeks Elementary music teacher Lindsey Smeenk.  

 

Smeenk said that much of the application for the award centered around the amount of community support a music program receives.

“It has been so great to have live music back and in full force for all to see. The students, families, and the entire school community are thrilled to have music back and thriving again.  Music provides an outlet for so many of our students, and it is an honor to be recognized for the program here at Windsor,” said Smeenk.  

“I feel incredibly lucky to work in a district that recognizes and values the importance of music education. Our students have so many empowering opportunities to create, explore, and perform. I look forward to the continued growth of the music program at both the building level and district wide,” said Palmer Elementary music teacher Sam Branion.

“I am very proud to work in the Windsor School District! The community and our Administration supports all our music adventures with students, and we greatly appreciate that support,” said Windsor Central Middle School music teacher Christine Krieger.

According to the NAMM Foundation, The Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students.

To qualify for the Best Communities designation, the Windsor CSD music department answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program, and community music-making programs. Responses were verified with school officials and reviewed by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.
