Olbrys Named to New York's ASCD Board
Windsor Central Middle School teacher Stefanie Olbrys has been named to the Board of Directors of the New York state affiliate of The Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD).

According to ASCD, the organization develops programs, products and services essential to the way educators learn, teach and lead. It has 114,000 members, including superintendents, principals, teachers, and advocates from more than 127 countries. Olbrys has been an ASCD Emerging Leader, leading to speaking, writing and editing roles for ASCD at the national level. Now she’ll get to drive policy closer to home.

“ASCD is an amazing organization pushing teaching, learning and leading forward and I am super excited for an opportunity to work with NYSASCD on this work. New York is an amazing state with great educators making a difference everyday. While it is incredible to do work on a National Level, I see this as an opportunity to have more of a local impact and be more involved with the amazing work that is already happening in the State," said Olbrys.

"When I was introduced to Mrs. Olbrys this spring, I knew she was someone who could help forward NYSASCD's mission of vision, advocacy, and leadership.  Our Directors recognized that as well and appointed her to an open position on our Board unanimously," said Brian Kesel, Executive Director of NYSASCD.

ASCD has people in a number of roles in education. However, Olbrys feels she can fill a critical niche.

“It’s important to have the voice of a teacher. I’m the only teacher on the (NYS) Board. Being a teacher from a rural district, I hope to bring a unqique perspective,” said Olbrys. “It’s definitely a way to connect Windsor with new opportunities.”

Olbrys will attend an ASCD strategic planning session in Albany in June. She has been named to the Board on an interim basis, but is nominated to serve a three-year term beginning on July 1.
