Summer Program Rundown - July 9
Below is a rundown of Windsor CSD summer programs for July 9:

Basketball camp began with a day of drills focused on dribbling and passing. Tuesday’s drills will focus on shooting, and Wednesday’s on defense. Thursday will be a recap of the skills learned during the week.

Campers are split between the indoor gym and outdoor courts because of the large number of athletes participating.

“We want to grow basketball in Windsor. We want to get more kids interested, let them make some friends and get some exercise,” said basketball coach Duncan Paddick.

Monday also marked the debut of the Literacy and Sports Science summer camp. This program is for high school-age students and aims to incorporate physical activities with lessons on nutrition.

“The overall goal is to have the students create their own health and wellness plan by the end of camp,” said teacher Kori Smith.

On Monday campers watched Food, Inc., a documentary that examines the food supply in America. The students will also hear from a representative from Cornell Cooperative Extension about purchasing local food, and is planning a trip to a ropes course in Sidney on Thursday. The two-week camp will end on Thursday, July 19.

The Windsor Strong Academy for current students in 6th through 8th grades also began Monday. The entire academy spent last summer exploring Binghamton to answer the question, “What makes a community strong?”

This year, the campers will split time between the Windsor Central High School campus and the Binghamton University Downtown Center. First-year students will explore the question, “What makes a community strong?”

Second-year students will study what it means to be future-ready by studying seven career pathways. All students will examine, “what it means to be the best me.”

On Monday, Windsor graduate, combat veteran and Army recruiter Kyle Krause spoke with students. For more on the start of Windsor Strong Academy, click here
