Windsor Student Named to YES LEADS Action Plan Committee

Current 8th grade student Sydney Christensen has been named to the YES LEADS Action Plan Committee. Sydney is one of three students from the Broome County area to be selected. The three YES LEAD students are being taken on an all-expense paid trip to the Youth to Youth Eastern States Conference in Rhode Island from July 28th-31st.

The Youth to Youth Eastern States Conference is a four day event where 500 teens will attend workshops, listen to special guest speakers and meet with other like-minded youth who share their commitment to being drug and alcohol-free. This conference is uniquely youth-led and designed for maximum impact both during the conference and back home in their communities.

After the conference the students will create the YES LEADS Action Plan which will help shape the direction of YES LEADS going forward. The YES LEADers will meet with YES Staff outside of LEADership Advisory meetings to discuss the Action Plan progress.

Sydney has been a member of YES LEADS for one year. While in YES LEADS, she has participated in presentations to 5th grade students on peer pressure and she was also a one-on-one mentor to a 6th grade student. Sydney also attended the LEADers Change Lives Recognition Reception with Senator Fred Akshar and Lourdes CEO Kathy Connerton.
