Zach Burpee Wins NJHS Outstanding Achievement Award

Windsor Central Middle School 8th-grade student Zachary Burpee has won the 2017 National Junior Honor Society Outstanding Achievement Award.

Burpee's successes in the classroom and contributions to the community led to the honor. He won the school Science Fair in the 6th grade and won a Gold Medal in the Regional Science Fair in both the 6th and 8th grades. He was also named Citizen of the Year in the Middle School when he was in 6th grade.

Burpee volunteered at the Windsor Public Library last summer. He read to younger children and helped with arts and crafts.

"That was fun. I'll do it again this year," said Burpee, who has also volunteered with the Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse (CHOW).

As a result of his award Burpee won $500 which will be put in a college savings account for him.

"It's a great opportunity. I'm sure I'll go to college so it's a great start," said Burpee.
