Bell Elementary Students Make $700 Donation to Heifer International

Students at Bell Elementary School helped countless people throughout the world thanks to a $700 donation to Heifer International.

The Student Council used the money to buy a water buffalo, llama, sheep, goat, and flock of chickens. According to the organization, Heifer International, "links communities and helps bring sustainable agriculture and commerce to areas with a long history of poverty. Our animals provide partners with both food and reliable income, as agricultural products such as milk, eggs and wool can be traded or sold at market.”

The Student Council organized a pair of fundraisers that led to the donation. First, it held a “Comfy for a Cause” day. Students and staff made a donation of 50 cents in order to wear their pajamas and comfy clothes to school.

Secondly, students sold Candy Grams for $1 apiece in December. Any student or staff member could purchase a candy cane Candy Gram to send to another Bell Elementary student or staff member. All of the funds that were raised from these two events were matched by Student Council, and the grand total was around $700.

“I’m very grateful that our school was able to help these families in need. I hope Windsor students are encouraged to do it again next year,” said Student Council President Shelby Goodwin.

“It’s amazing how quickly a small number of good deeds can add up! It just goes to show you that it doesn’t matter how small you are or your community is, you can make a difference in a big way,” said Student Council Advisor Meghan Leonard.
