Board of Education Recognition Event

The Windsor Central School District recognized students, staff and community members who have made a positive impact in the District Tuesday night at C.R. Weeks Elementary School.

C.R. Weeks cook Tina McCaffrey was honored for exemplifying the gold standard in customer service. She has done so with a positive attitude and service with a smile.

John West, Tammy Smith, Nancy Nash and Sharon Fish each volunteer an hour per week to serve as mentors to C.R. Weeks students. They do so with one-on-one interactions with students and by serving as role models.

5th-grade student Tyler Dixon spends much of his lunch period assisting in the cafeteria. After finishing his meal he performs a number of duties including getting napkins, straws and utensils from classmates to helping wash tables and chairs. His volunteerism has also inspired his classmates.

Weeks Spelling Bee champs Kenadie Dunlap and Marissa Yeager represented their school at the National Scripps Spelling Bee on March 4th in Corning, NY.

5th-grade students Garrison Calta, Grace Deyo, Sophia Chen and Noah Sandhu end their day volunteering in the afternoon UPK clasroom. They help pack up the younger students and oversee the safe delivery of preschool students to their buses. They have also become mentors who help with social and academic tasks.

Debbie Scheer and Tracey Champion have each driven a bus for the District for over 10 years. They have spent that time getting to know their passengers, as well as their actions and behaviors. As a result, both recognized medical situations that could have easily been overlooked. Their identification of the situation and immediate response prevented an emergency in both cases.

John West, Jerry Launt, Raymond Kennerup, Scott Pierson Jr. and Lane Colpitts represented the West Windsor Fire Department. Members of the Department serve C.R. Weeks by making food donations, presenting to the classroom and bringing the fire truck to the school. Members also host the school's safety team for an early morning meeting.

Jason Hans, Director of Special Programs for the District, was honored for his work with students with special needs. One parent wrote a letter for the Board to read honoring Hans, thanking him for going above and beyond to secure services for special-needs students that are not traditional. His work to develop a contained special education classroom at Floyd Bell Elementary School allowed parents to keep their children in the District.
