Windsor Leads So. Tier Districts with 11 Newly-Named NYS Master Teachers

11 teachers from the Windsor Central School District are among the 275 from around the state named Thursday as New York State Master Teachers. The total of 11 is the highest from any Southern Tier district. The Southern Tier led all regions in the state with 146 newly-named Master Teachers.

The 11 Windsor educators honored today are Kara Beattie, Jennifer Grassi, Deborah Kalivoda, Alesia Kuratnik, Denise Lang, Meghan Leonard, Eileen Mulcahy, Maria Van De Weert, Nicole Weist, Mark Wentka and Jennifer Young.

The New York State Master Teacher Program celebrates the work of the highest-performing STEM teachers by establishing an expert community dedicated to developing expertise in the areas of content, pedagogy, and students’ families and communities.

“I am so proud of our teachers recognized today by the Governor’s Office. Their achievement is a testament to their hard work and commitment. They are an inspiration to all of our educators to continue to provide the best possible experiences for our students,” said Dr. Jason Andrews, Superintendent of the Windsor Central School District.

The goal of the program is to attract talented students into careers in STEM fields, including STEM education. Through participation in the NYSMTP, selected STEM teachers receive $15,000 stipends annually over four years.

They will also engage in peer mentoring and intensive content-oriented professional development opportunities throughout the academic year, work closely with pre-service and early career teachers to foster a supportive environment for the next generation of STEM teachers and attend required regional cohort meetings, participate in and lead several professional development sessions each year.
