Water rockets charging full STEAM ahead

Employing their knowledge of science, technology, engineering, art and math, students recently put their skills to the test competing to see whose rocket would launch the farthest, accurately hit a target, and safely reach a destination without cracking an egg.

Students worked in teams to construct these rockets and record their data. They got to demonstrate their rockets and present their findings to engineers from Lockheed Martin. The STEAM summer program is in its second year and includes ninth- and tenth-grade students from the region. Students located at the Windsor sight include Harpursville, Susquehanna Valley, and Windsor.

The academy is organized by Broome-Tioga Boces and includes a two-week, hands-on program that engages students in project-based learning around science, technology, engineering, math and art through the design cycle. In addition to creating water rockets, students spent one week at BOCES creating robots.
