Six Windsor Teams Compete in the New York State Odyssey of the Mind Competition at Binghamton University

Six teams from the Windsor Central School District competed in the NYS Odyssey of the Mind competition at Binghamton University on April 2. Four of the six teams placed in the top five and the team from CR Weeks won their division and will move on to the World Finals!

To advance to the state tournament teams had to place in the top two in their division at the regional tournament held in February. Six Windsor teams in six different divisions advanced to the state tournament. Teams had the opportunity to enter five different categories with three divisions in each category. The categories include Aesop Gone Viral, No-Cycle Recycle, Something Fishy, Fins Furs Feathers & Friends, and Stack Attack. Divisions are broken down based on age and grade level. Each team has eight minutes to present their ideas to a team of judges and the teams also compete in a spontaneous round where they answer questions given by judges in a closed setting.

The Windsor high school team finished third in the Aesop Gone Viral category Division III. The middle school team Behn tied for fourth in the Aesop Gone Viral category Division II. Team Lang from Palmer placed third in the No-Cycle Recycle category Division I. Team Mulcahy from CR Weeks won the Aesop Gone Viral Division I and will move on to the world tournament in Iowa! Team Crisanti from CR Weeks and Team Cappello from the middle school also competed in the state tournament.

Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Jason A. Andrews said, “Every year I am amazed by the creativity and passion from our students competing in Odyssey of the Mind and this year was no different. It was evident that each team had spent countless hours working to perfect their presentations. I am proud to claim all of these students and coaches as Windsor’s own and I wish the best of luck to the team from CR Weeks moving on to the World Finals!”

The World Finals are being held at Iowa State University, May25-May 28. Over 800 teams will compete in the 37th OM World Finals. This tournament has grown into the largest international creative problem-solving competition.
