Summer Program Rundown - August 13

The following is a rundown of Windsor CSD summer programs for August 13:

The final week of summer programs began with a civil engineering project for students in Knight Lights. Students are building a sustainable city. It’s a two-day project that will have each student building a part of the city. All of the parts will interconnect at the end of the project.

“They need to decide what is necessary for infrastructure. We talked about gas and electricity. We talked about what services cities need, and not just what you can see but what’s inside and underneath – the hidden city,” said teacher Eileen Mulcahy.

Younger literacy students made a treasure map today after reading a pirate story last week. Older literacy students performed a reader’s theater of Because of Winn-Dixie. Each student played a character from the book.

In Fine Arts camp, Photography and Mosaics students added oil pastels to eyes and noses on their collages, while photography campers continued editing their project, where they took pictures of objects that represent a letter which, put together, spell out a word.

Some students also painted pottery they created last week, while others are taking photographs for their stop-motion movies. Painting students are finishing their landscapes.

Music performance split into two groups: one studied African drums while the other reviewed musical elements such as note values and counting.
Improv students played a pair of games. Follow the leader begins with one person making a movement or noise, then others follow. They also played Zip, Zap Zop – an exercise meant to improve eye contact with other characters during a performance.

Students also took part in Music Tech, Drums and Ukulele. The goal for student in Music Tech is to have each create an original song before the end of the week.
