Windsor CSD Receives $331,000 Grant

The New York State Department of Education has awarded the Windsor Central School District over $331,000 in federal grant money to help enhance student programming. Windsor is one of 38 districts throughout the state to share in $28.5 million in this round of Student Support and Academic Enrichment (SSAE) grants from the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).

The Windsor Central School District will use the money to fund the “Future Ready Knights” program, increasing learning and career pathways for students.

“Preparing students to be college- and career-ready means more than just providing excellent instruction in the classroom. The Future Ready Knights program will build 21st-century skills in our students by providing them a number of pathways in and out of the classroom. This will also give them a chance to build professional relationships within our community to put those skills to use,” said Dr. Jason Andrews, Superintendent of the Windsor Central School District.

The District currently uses the Project Lead the Way program as a K-12th grade engineering pipeline. “Future Ready Knights” will focus on expanding accelerated learning opportunities, including the addition of new high school-level courses, as well as new extension activities and career development activities, focusing on agriculture, health care, and trades.

In addition, students will be provided with personal, one-on-one guidance in developing career goals and enrolling in relevant Pathways courses via a dedicated Career Coach.  There will also be a Pathways Community & Business Liaison, who will develop robust work-based experiences and other career development activities for high school students.

New courses will include Introduction to Agriculture Business and Greenhouse Production, Computer Science Principles and Trades III, an elective for high school students that will be included in the Trades pathway.

The District will also add two college-credit courses: Foundations in Education, to be taught by Binghamton University, and Biology 131 (Anatomy & Physiology), which will be taught by SUNY Broome.
